My New 58" Plasma

100_0830

Click the pic above to view the first day photos of my new Samsung PN58A550 Plasma TV. It's 58 inches, and the only thing I can really say is that you have to see the picture in person to fully appreciate the 1080p Full HD resolution. This is an upgrade from a 57" Hitachi Rear Projection TV and even though that was 1080i, the difference in color, contrast, and clarity is amazing. The biggest difference I noticed right off the bat was how clear logos are on the digital channels (i.e. the score ticker of an NBA game in HD, the digital cable's guide, and any HD commercial or show that uses digital graphics. I then watched some Blu-ray discs, like Pirates of the Caribbean, The Simpsons Movie, and a few more, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue on the Playstation 3, and my MacBook Pro connected to the TV thru DVI-HDMI. The plasma is such a different technology from rear projection and it feels like a whole new kind of thing. I am so pleased, and the only downsides so far are the 150 pound weight and the easily attracted fingerprints, but you have to deal with those kinds of things with this kind of tech. Enjoy the photos, and here is a video of Pirates in 1080p, but my camera records a lot of digital noise so you won't be able to see anywhere near how clear the picture is.
